What is LPG?
  • LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas) is the generic name for commercial propane and commercial butane to BS4250 or LPG Autogas to EN589.
  • LPG is gaseous at normal pressures and temperatures but will liquefy readily under moderate pressure or reduced temperature.
  • One litre of pressurised LPG equates to 270 litres of gas.
  • LPG is a colourless, odourless gas that is heavier than air. A chemical called ethyl mercaptan is added to impart a pungent odour to assist leak detection.
  • LPG burns readily in air and is used as a fuel in a range of applications.
  • LPG can be produced through the processing of crude oil and natural gas, and can also be produced during petroleum refining.
Where is LPG used?
    LPG is used:
  • As a transport fuel; as a domestic fuel; as an energy source in recreational applications in boats, caravans, camping stoves, lamps, and barbeques;
  • In other applications such as hot air balloons, in metal brazing and cutting, in cigarette lighters, and in flame weeding; and in industrial applications such as pottery kilns and baking ovens.
What do I need to know about gas safety?
    Always read and observe appliance instructions.

  • If you can smell gas or suspect a leak:
    • Do not switch any lights or electrical equipment on or off.
    • No matter where you smell gas, close the manual outlet valve on the tank.
    • If the smell or leak is indoors, open doors and windows.

  • If a fire occurs:
    • Dial 999 to call the fire brigade. Ensure you tell them an LPG tank is on the premises.
    • Leave the premises and go to a safe place.
  • Installation and Servicing
    • By law gas fixed indoor LPG appliances must be installed and maintained by a LPG registered installer.
    • All gas appliances need regular servicing. Indoor appliances should be serviced annually. Read the appliance instructions for guidance.
    • Never tamper with the equipment.
    • Always provide adequate ventilation for appliances.
    • Never use an appliance or equipment which is damaged in any way.
  • Carbon Monoxide
    • Carbon Monoxide is a poisonous gas which can be formed by burning any fuel if the appliance is not properly installed or maintained.
    • Carbon monoxide detectors are widely available and it is strongly recommended that every household has one.
    • If you ever suffer any of following symptoms when appliances are in use: headaches; nausea; dizziness.Then turn them off immediately, and have them checked by a CORGI registered installer.

How do I return an LPG cylinder?

    LPG cylinders remain the property of Energas Energy Solutions and are refilled by exchange. If a cylinder is no longer needed it should be returned to one of the Energas Energy Solutions sales and distribution centres.
Where can I get my car converted to LPG?
    There are many specialist garages throughout the UK where you can get a conversion to LPG for your vehicle. How do I order an LPG Installation?
    Just call FREEPHONE 0808 178 2009 and we will do the rest. Our surveying team will establish the best position for siting the tank, above or below ground, work out all pipe-work runs to your property and complete all the necessary paperwork. It's as easy as that.
Can Energas Energy Solutions fill my existing tank?
    If you are a domestic user, from the 13th April 2009 the Competition Commission has ruled that we CAN take over ownership of the tank from your present supplier if he has been supplying you for more than two years. Contact us immediately on FREEPHONE 0808 178 2009 to start saving money now, we will complete all the paperwork for you.
